How To: Be Bear Aware

Be Bear Aware! fb.png

Registration required by May 10th!

Montana is home to bears. It's also home to amazing recreational opportunities, including day hiking, backpacking, fly-fishing, camping, hunting, and all other pursuits that place us, young professionals, outdoors. Not surprisingly, bears and humans occasionally interact. Sometimes it is as harmless as spotting a bear on a ridge while out hiking. Other times it may be surprising a sow with cubs in some berry bushes.

This how-to event will provide you with information so you can safely and responsibly enjoy the outdoors while in bear country. It will also educate you on the best way to handle a close encounter and minimize the risk. A hands-on component will include how-to-use bear spray.

This event is free and provided in partnership with Montana WILD and held in the Gazebo at Montana WILD near Spring Meadow State Park. Registration is required. Attendance is capped at 25 people. The event will be held entirely outdoors and will last 1.5 hours. Please dress appropriately. A reminder email will be sent out a day before the event.
