March Member Spotlight: Matthew Paulsen

What do you do for work/free time?

I'm a promotional marketing and custom apparel specialist for Allegra Marketing here in Helena.
Outside of the usual 9-5 you can either find me at home with my golden girl Sunny, or out with friends and family sampling the local breweries. Otherwise, I'm always looking forward to skiing in the winter and playing adult-league kickball in the summer.

How did you land in Helena?

Born and raised. My parents and grandparents on all sides of the family were born here in the Helena and East Helena areas. There's definitely a lot of stories and history to share.

What is the best piece of advice that you ever received – career-related or otherwise?

There are no such things as mistakes as long as you can learn from them and grow.

When do you feel the most yourself?

I tend to feel the most comfortable once I've gotten to know someone beyond the first initial conversations. Things tend to get pretty weird from then on.

Where is the last place you explored and where do you want to explore next?

The last place I had the chance to explore was Kauai. Honestly one of my favorite destinations ever. I loved being able to take a helicopter ride over the Nāpali Coast and taking in the beauty of the vast majority of the island that is otherwise untraversable. Next destination is more of a pipe dream, but I've always been fascinated by either Europe or Southeast Asia, whichever comes first.
